How do you pick stocks, and what do you look for in a stock?
This depends on your investment philosophy.
If you are looking for low P/E stocks use a screener (MSN money has one) and pull up a list of possible candidates. Then set up sub-screens. Sales must grow 15% and profits 10% over x time period. Further number falls out. When you have a reasonable number you can pull them apart and compare between a couple of stocks. Then make the investment in the best candidate.
As your portfolio grows you compare any new candidates against your current portfolio. (Think challenge tree.)
Over time you will come to understand it is much harder to determine whether to SELL a stock than Buy one.
